Sawasdee!!! (A greeting from Thailand)
Welcome to HeddaTan.com! I see that you wanted to find out more about this Teaching English Literacy web blog, what it is all about, and who are the people behind it.
So who is Hedda Tan and Why Teaching English Literacy?
Hedda has been living and teaching in Thailand the last twelve years. She has taught in a Thai private school, several language institutes, a government school and currently, is teaching in an international school in Bangkok. Beside a degree in Nursing, she holds a Master of Arts degree in English Language Teaching. She has conducted several workshops in schools in Bangkok on her thesis, “The Relationship Between Reading and Writing in an ESL Context in an International School in Thailand”.
She keeps abreast of current trends in education by joining professional development opportunities all over the region, particularly those run by the East Asia Regional Conferences organization and has attended a reading conference in Sacramento, California in November 2006.
Last year, her professional goal led her to create a program that enables parents to monitor their children’s learning and school progress with very minimal teacher effort.
This year, her interest is on effective and meaningful documentation of her students’ learning. She is also interested to share her work with those who are currently teaching in Asia, be partners with others who like herself have web blogs related to teaching English literacy in the region. And lastly, she envisions this web blog becoming a great help to parents and guardians out there, who want ideas to effectively motivate their own kids to learn to read and write in English, and become more self directed learners as a whole.
Subcribe to HeddaTan.com newsletter and get updates on effective programs to keep Middle and High School students motivated and self-directed in their studies, unit and lesson plans on teaching reading and writing for all grade levels, ideas and teaching principles of Hedda’s mentors, who are considered authorities by their peers in their own fields, and everything else she have proven effective among the multi-national learners of English that she have had the last twelve years teaching in different schools in Thailand.
